How your work is organized
Organizations, units, projects and the things you build, how a brand flows down through them, and what the Console shows at each level.
Everything you build in Alodai lives inside an organization. Inside it you can group work into projects, and group projects into units. Your apps and sites are the resources those projects hold.
All my organizations
└─ Organization always there
└─ Unit up to four levels deep
└─ Project
└─ Apps and sitesThe levels
- All my organizations. The first page after you sign in. It shows what needs you, the organizations you belong to, and your recent apps and activity.
- Organization. The company, with its legal details, billing and members. It is always there.
- Unit. A way to group projects: by brand, client, region, department, portfolio or folder. Units can be nested up to four levels deep. Every organization starts with one, kept out of sight, so you never have to create one.
- Project. A piece of work with its own overview, members and settings.
- Apps and sites. The platforms and websites you build. Domains are managed for the whole organization.
Levels you do not use stay out of your way
The Console shows only as much structure as you have:
| Your organization has | What the Console shows |
|---|---|
| No projects | The organization overview, with a card that offers to organize your work |
| Projects, one unit | Projects become the organization's home; units are never mentioned |
| Two or more units | The full tree: organization, units, projects |
The tier follows the whole organization, not only what you can see. If you were invited to one project in an organization that uses units, you still see where that project sits.
Brand flows down
A brand is not a level. It is an attribute that each level inherits from the one above it, and any level can override it:
Organization → Unit → Project → App or siteSet the brand once on the organization and everything below uses it. Give a unit or a project its own brand and everything under that one uses the new brand instead. A level that sets nothing keeps what it inherited. Only published brand versions are used.
Finding your way around the Console
- The top bar holds the organization switcher and, beside it, where you are inside the organization. It also has Create, your notifications and your account menu.
- The side menu changes with where you are:
- in an organization: Overview, Projects and Units when you use them, then Build, Run, Cloud and AI, with Administration pinned at the bottom;
- in a unit or a project: Overview, Members and Settings;
- in an app or a site: that app's or site's own sections.
Who sees what
People are given a role on the organization, a unit or a project. A role on a level covers everything inside it: a role on a unit reaches all of that unit's projects. The roles are Owner, Admin, Editor, Viewer, Billing manager and Auditor. See The Console for how access to the Console works today.
